Vernon White

May 20, 1926 — May 9, 2021

Vernon Edward White, age 94, passed away on May 9, 2021 at the Home of the Flint Hills, St. George, KS.  Vernon was born on May 20, 1926 at Ness City, KS, the son of Homer Reeves and Ina Jane (Redenbaugh) White.  On Apr. 5, 1952, he married Peggy P. Smith at rural St. John, KS.  He was a home builder, farmer and was co-owner of White Mfg., with his late wife Peggy.  Vernon was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Force, serving from 1944-1945 and had membership in the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club both of St. John, KS.  Vernon’s fingerprints are all over his hometown, St. John.  Over many years he had built many houses, repaired various properties, and even built the Minnis Chapel.  Survivors include his daughter, Leigh Ann (Randy) Kloefkorn, Alpharetta, GA; three sons, Spencer (Jodi) White, Eagan, MN, Grant (Mary) White, Lenexa, KS, Tim (Kelly) White, Manhattan, KS; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy and grandson, Tyler White.  Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS., with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Friends are invited to remain at the Chapel for a visitation with family immediately following the service .  A private family inurnment service with military honors will take place in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lucille Hall Museum in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
