Obituary

***A celebration of life for Fredys Lea Wasson will be held at the Trousdale United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 10:30AM.  Masks are recommended, hand sanitizer will be available and and all other reasonable precautions will be taken to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Fredys Lea Wasson, born October 26, 1937, joyfully went to meet her Lord and savior Tuesday, March 10, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.  Her husband Lawrence R. Wasson (Larry) and parents Dollie and Charles Laverne (Verne) Miller were waiting to rejoin her on the other side.  Her children, Lawrence LaVerne Wasson, Kathryn Kay Luna, Dawn Denise Thiel, Edwin Eugene Wasson, Marla Michelle Wasson and Rodney Ray Wasson will carry her in their hearts even as her family legacy of 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren grows and changes in the coming years.  Fredys also leaves behind sister Verna Rundell of Syracuse, Kansas, and brother Francis Miller of Hartsburg, MO, and has promised to greet them at the pearly gates when they get there.

Fredys grew up in what she called “God’s Country,” also known as Western Kansas.  Born in Garden City at St. Catherine’s Hospital, she was the middle of three children.  Fredys graduated from Sublette High School as valedictorian in 1955 and was a proud member of the Haskell County 4-H.

Fredys began piano lessons early in her life and discovered a deep talent for accompanying musicians of all talent levels with music in many different genres.  She worked with choirs and soloists, vocal and instrumental, in classrooms and competition settings. She might say her greatest contribution was to the churches she attended.  Her gift of service to any church she attended was deeply appreciated, especially at her final church home, Trousdale United Methodist Church.  Trousdale UMC will remember her as a woman with a big heart who said yes when asked to share her talents and gave her best every time.

Shortly after her marriage to Larry on June 3, 1956, the couple moved to Manhattan, Kansas to attend Kansas State University (Go Cats!).  She began a degree in Nursing before earning her M.o.M. degree when three children arrived in quick succession.  Larry finished his degree in education, and his job took the growing family to several towns around the state including Ogden, Almena, and Holcomb, until settling for good in Belpre.

A true daughter of Dollie Miller, she preferred being outside and doing just about anything to housework or working inside.  She was talented with her hands and continued to knit afghans for her beloved grandchildren’s high school graduations until very recently.  She loved gardening, driving her mower at light speed, the cardinals that flocked to her bird feeder in winter and golden wheat fields bending in the wind.

Fredys had many friends in Edwards County, Kansas, who will remember her fondly for her love of Romano’s Pizza, scavenger hunt clues she wrote every Christmas for the Chamber of Commerce and her enthusiastic support of her small town.

We are sure she is making a joyful noise with the angels today, and are grateful for her presence, however briefly, in our lives.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date at the Trousdale United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the Belpre Cemetery.  Donations in Fredys’ memory can be made to the Trousdale United Methodist Church or the Kansas Food Bank in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
