Omar C. Norton, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS. He was born on March 26, 1934 in Spearville, KS., the son of Harvey and Mary Helena (Robbins) Norton. On March 19, 1955 he married Jule Lee (Markiewicz) in Great Bend, KS. She passed in 2000. Omar received a master’s degree in music education and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served as a vocal music teacher for St. John-Hudson schools for 38 years and was an avid gardener. Memberships include First United Methodist Church, Lucille Hall Museum, Heart of America Men’s Chorus, The Break Awayz Band and Prairie Crooners singing group. He is survived by a daughter, Shari (Mike) Jacobs, Lake City, KS; a son, Mark (Chiemi) Norton, St. John, KS; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; 3 brothers, Ed, Everett, and LeRoy Norton; 3 sisters, Margaret, Katherine, and Lottie Belle. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 30, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, St. John, KS., with Pastor Benjamin Simba presiding. Memorials may be given to Hall Museum, Methodist Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
