Loren Thompson, 91, passed away Nov. 13, 2019 in Macksville, KS. Loren was born in 1928 in rural Edwards County, Kansas, the son of Fred Thompson, and Leila (Reese). Loren attended school and helped work the family farm in Trousdale, Kansas, where he met and married, Peggy Johnson, in 1948. The couple relocated to Syracuse, Kansas in 1950, where they farmed and raised their family. Loren farmed north of Syracuse for many years, and he also worked as a heavy equipment operator for Hamilton County, Dodge City, and for several feedlots in western Kansas. Loren had a love of everything outdoors, and he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and raising a big garden every year. He also had a passion for sports, and he followed his teams faithfully. Loren also loved playing games, and if he could find those willing, he could play the night through. Loren was a member of the Christian Church, and the VIP in Macksville. Loren is preceded in death by daughters, Susan Myers and Kathryn Kimbrough. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Peggy Thompson, daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Goodwin, of Brighton, CO., son, Tom (Deborah) Thompson, of Ulysses, KS., son, Gary (Tammy) Thompson, of Hudson, KS., daughter, Denise (Dickie) Diehl, of Halstead, KS., daughter, Donna (Bill) Culver, of Garden City, KS., and daughter, Anita Scott, of Macksville, KS., 22 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 10 great, great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 at the Macksville Christian Church, Macksville, KS, with pastor Jacob Russell presiding. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Memorials may be given to the Macksville Christian Church in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
