John Bright

John “Russell” Bright , age 88, passed away Feb. 2, 2015 at Hutchinson, KS.  He was born on Nov. 24, 1926 at Longton, KS, the son of John Riley and Lola (Hughes) Bright.  He was a resident of St. John since 1948 where he was an Oil Field Consultant.  His memberships include the First Baptist Church, IOOF Lodge, past president of the JC’s, lifetime VFW member while also serving his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was involved in the development of Brown Memorial Park by the VFW in the 1950’s and with Little League baseball all in St. John.  On June 27, 1948 he married Norma Lee (Parten) at Beaver, KS, she survives of the home .  Other survivors include two sons , Mike Bright (Alicia), Napa, CA, Keith Bright (Kathleen), Salina, KS; 4 daughters , Connie Carey (Bruce), Sterling, KS, Carol McLeod (Don), Oswego, KS, Coette Lewis (Robert), Wichita, KS, Carmen Hamilton (Steven), Northville, MI; a brother , Willard Bright, Independence, KS; a sister , Margaret Vestal, Independence, KS; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren . He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Bright and sisters, Claudine Wells, Twila Morris and Treva Bright. Funeral service will be 2:30 P.M., Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, St. John, KS with Pastor Roland Broeder presiding. Burial will follow in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Visitation will be from 3-7P.M., Saturday with family present from 4-7P.M., at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or the Ida Long Goodman Library in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
