J. Hager, Jr.

J.D. Hager, Jr., age 84, passed away with his daughter by his side on Feb. 24, 2022 at Hilltop Manor, Cunningham, KS.  He was born on Aug. 18, 1937 at St. John, KS., the son of J.D. and Mary (Delker) Hager, Sr.  A life-long resident of St. John, he was a 1955 graduate of St. John High School and graduated from Pratt Community Junior College in 1961.   He had a 58-year successful career in banking, working through all the positions from teller to bank president held 1974-1984 and elected chairman of the board in January 2003 to present.  He received his 50-year banking award and was a member of the Kansas Bankers Association. J.D. served on numerous boards to include, Stafford County Country Club, 20-years as Stafford County Commissioner, Quivira Scenic By-Ways planning board, was instrumental in getting the Stafford County Annex built and the Stafford County Solid Waste department established.  On Feb. 17, 1956, he married Kay (Maddox) of Red Oak, IA, to this union came a daughter, Julie (Steve) Hash, Grand Junction, CO; a son, James D. “Jim” Hager, Wichita, KS.; on Nov. 23, 1994, he married Rose Marie (Fuqua) of St. John, KS., thus expanding his family adding Marie’s daughter, Julie Good, Tyler, TX., and a son, Douglas (Evette) W. Fox, Ponchatoula, LA.; two sisters, Dorothy Jordan, Nevada, MO and Donna (Joe) Heter, Branson, MO.; grandchildren, Ryan and Travis Hash, Mindy Willis, five blended grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Johnny L. Hager and C. William “Bill” Hager.  Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 from 1-7PM with family present from 5-7PM.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS., with burial to follow in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS. Memorials may be given to the St. John Jubilee Committee, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Shepherd’s Center in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
