Gerald “Jerry” R. Long, age 77, passed away on January 28, 2026 at the Stafford County Hospital, Stafford, KS. He was born on Dec. 26, 1948 in Parsons, KS., the son of Maurice “Morrie” Dale and Norma Bee (Neill) Long. Jerry was a St. John High School graduate and life-long resident of St. John, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University and was a walk on for the K-State Wildcat football team. Jerry served in the Army National Guard and was a faithful member of the Trinity Community Church of Hudson, and the I.O.O.F Lodge #539 of St. John. Jerry served on boards for many cooperatives through the years including the Farmers COOP and Dillwyn Grain and Supply. Jerry was a jack of all trades working as a farmer-stockman, and was the owner of Long’s Custom Harvesting. He took pride in his family and attended many events ranging from horse shows, sporting events, and making sure to support each one of his kids and grandkids in what they loved. Survivors include a brother, Thomas D. (Nita) Long, Omaha, NE; a son, Raymond L. (Melissa) Long, St. John, KS; two daughters, Suzette M. (Kyle) Van Doren, St. John, KS, Carissa A. (Tyler) Hearn, Isabel, KS; 8 grandchildren, Madison Barton, Triston (Megan) Long, Diana Long, Brooke Long and fiancé Tanner Walker, Dayton Long, Madilyn Hearn, Gracie (Brandon) Moore, Kynlee Hearn; a great grandchild, Wrenley Bee Moore; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Kurt. He was preceded in death by both parents; and sister Trudie (Howard) Blender. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Trinity Community Church, Hudson, KS with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Lunch and fellowship for family and friends to follow in the basement of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Community Church, or the Stafford County Hospital in Gerald’s memory. Private family inurnment will be in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS.
