Freda Helwig

Freda H. (Fitzsimmons) Helwig, age 103, passed away March 14, 2020.  She was born on Oct. 20, 1916 at Bluffs, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and June (Halpin) Fitzsimmons. Freda was a retired school teacher for Radium and Macksville schools. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University. A life-long resident of Macksville, she married William Philip Helwig, Jr. on Aug. 5, 1944 at Macksville, KS. She was a member of the Macksville Christian Church.  Survivors include a son, Craig Helwig (Terre); 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Charles Fitzsimmons and John Warren Fitzsimmons; a sister, Norma Jean.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Macksville Christian Church or the Macksville City Library Building Fund in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
