Dorothy McIntire

April 14, 1913 — May 6, 2014

Dorothy (Brazle) McIntire, age 101, died May 6, 2014 at South Wind Hospice Home, Pratt. She was born Apr. 14, 1913 near Shell Knob, MO, the daughter of William Paris and Delvy Epperly Brazle. She was the youngest of five children. Her brothers Cloy, Perry, Charles and Clarence are all deceased. When she was 10 years old her family moved to Dexter, KS. She graduated from Dexter high school in 1931. She attended Pittsburg State Teacher's College. She taught school for six years and belonged to the Christian Church. She married Wilbur M. McIntire, a pharmacist, on June 28, 1938. They owned and operated drug stores in Miltonvale, Wellsville, Oswego and St. John. Wilbur passed away Aug. 23, 1969. Dorothy continued to operate the drug store, taking in a pharmacist, Dan Willis as a partner. She later sold her interest but continued working in pharmacy as front end buyer until she retired in 1988 after 50 years in the drug store business. She and her husband became real estate brokers in 1963. She operated the St. John Real Estate until retiring in 1994. Survivors include 2 nieces, 6 nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 11:00am Friday, May 9, 2014 at Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John with Chaplain Jerry Hodges presiding. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ or Second Mile Food Bank both in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, Ks 67576.
