Betty Tschanz

Betty Lou Tschanz, age 91 passed away Aug. 25, 2016 at Leisure Homestead, St. John.  She was born on Dec. 9, 1924 at Hutchinson, the daughter of Edward Stanton and Nellie Mildred (Ward) Cooper.  She was a homemaker, worked at the St. John News and was a waitress at several cafes in St. John and Protection.  A resident of St. John from 1924-59, Protection from 1959-1982 and back to St. John to present date.  She graduated St. John High School in 1942.  Her memberships include, First United Methodist Church, UMW, Kennilworth Club, Sunflower Seniors, Rebekah Lodge #425.  She attended the Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Hutchinson. On Aug. 20, 1944, she married Walter Alfred Tschanz at St. John, he preceded her in death.  Survivors include two daughters, Ema Lynn Niernberger, Larned, KS, Mary Lou Littell, Rollinsville, CO; a step-brother, Allen Long, St. John, KS; two step-sisters, Joyce Rasco, Geneseo, IL, Reva McKinney, Marietta, OK; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Stanton Tschanz; a brother, Donald Lee Cooper; step brothers, Donald and Russell Long; step-sister, Doris Mettler.   A private family burial was held in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.  Memorials may be given to Sunflower Seniors or Library in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O.
